Teraminutes for the meeting of Friday 2nd April 2004

Tera-minutes of the April 02 , 2004 Tera-meeting

Present: Mireille, Jean-Christophe, Gerard, Gilles, Fred, Emmanuel, Yannick Absent: Laurent, Henry

SEx-server (Gerard):
-  The AVO-cat name proposed by Laurent is adopted.
-  Gerard is implementing a VO-table format in SExtractor. This turns out to be the most efficiency and logical way to add VO-tools functionality to SExtractor.
-  Gerard will meet CDS next week at IAP in order to get UCDs.
-  Prototype expected: next week, with a demo on Friday April 12.

DEfectix (Anthony)
-  Anthony showed masks and tested the masking procedure on real megacam images. Though still in a rough shape, looks very promising.
-  Anthony will implement a full resolution (without re-binning but the initial 4x4 rebinning step)
-  Better to have sliding block maps to improve resolution and provide better defect analysis.

Skywatcher (Jean-Christophe)
-  WCS lib. implemented; projections work fine.
-  Need to handle RA boundaries.
-  Implementation of libXML2 to handle XML files and to extract FITS header information from the database.

QualityFITS (Fred)
-  WCS lib. implemented. Next release will then handle CCDs in right astronomical coordinate systems. The PSF anisotropy mapping will then be almost instantaneous.
-  Need to handle carefully world-to-pixel orientation during projections
-  Implementation of image naming according to ICD still to be done.
-  Portability: CFITSIO (patch), PLPLOT 5.2, WCS
-  Release for Terapix expected by Monday April 5.
-  Once done, Laurent will run immediately 03AL, 03BL, and 03AF19 Cosmos data needs clarifications from Henry before running Qfits again.

Astrometrix/Photomterix (Fred)
-  All Mario's tool installed on Opteron. Prerepix removed since useless. Fred did a careful installation without using Mario's cookbook. All executables are installed in /usr/local/bin

-  Mireille will test the Opteron release on W3-W2 data in order to check final results as compared to 32 bits processors.

SCAMP (Emmanuel)
-  Implementation of photometric inter-calibration not finished yet.
-  Illumination correction handled using a polynomial fit
-  SCAMP photometric rescaling will be written as a new FITS Keyword, so neither CFHT ZP nor CFHT extinction keyword will be modified.
-  Jean-Christophe will check whether the skyprobe value is not written in the FITS header. This must be the exact skyprobe value, when the exposure was started.
-  Mireille will send W3-W2 pre-survey .LDACs to Emmanuel in order to test SCAMP on images with 1/2 megacam-size overlaps.
-  Expected SCAMP release date to Terapix: Monday April 5 (2004!).

Pre-survey W3-W2 data (Mireille)
-  Mireille used 47 W3 pre-survey images to produce a 102' x 475' image. Astrometry looks good over the whole field. Better to wait for new weightmaps prior to swarp. Need new QualityFITS release.

-  Mireille raised the issue of handling giant images. A tool which allows anyone to cut images of any size is definitely needed. Imcopy cannot handle very big images. toFITS2d seems to do so but we only have a executable for Opteron. The following actions are proposed:

-  Ask OAC whether they can provide toFITS2d source code to Terapix. Then install a 32- and 64-bits versions on all Terapix computers.
-  If this solution does not work, Jean-Christophe will write the code to cut megacam images.

Data Sophie Maurogordato (Gilles):

-  Weightmaps still under construction. Running QualityFITS on old-CFH12K data not trivial. Should be done this coming week.

Hardware: almost nothing.
-  Gilles will provide a disk to Fred to close /home of clix.

Next meeting: Friday April 9. 2004
