Terameeting 6th June 2006
Present: Henry, Yannick, Fred, Laurent, Mireille, Anthony, Anis, Emmanuel
By videoconf: Mathias
Spica: current status: Laurent, yannick
mix4/mi6/mix3 still processing very wide images; 2500 very wide images processed so far
none of these images have been noted; Yannick has sent messages to himself concerning the problems encountered during processing (1700 emails sent so far)
none of the VW images have been graded
Yannick proposes that the most useful plots of the Scamp and QFITS-out QC pages be merged into a single compact page where all information could be catched up in one shot. Laurent will try to provide this page Note: DONE!
we also need to find a better a way to carry out the quality control in an automatic fashion using numbers (rms error, etc...). Yannick reminds that Emmanuel is working on it in order to have the center-position and second-moments of 2-d plots measured. Yannick points out that we also need an estimate of oscillations in the 1-d plots produced by Scamp
5% of the very-wide images are totally off
proposition is that Wide-T0004-prototype L02/L05 starts in four days on mix4
PI data Annie Robin (Mireille, Emmanuel)
Big problem is that many images were made with the L3 flip of the WFC; image quality is good in the centre but there are strong distortions at the edge of the field; the usable field area is circular (later on, the optical configuration of the telescope was changed and optical quality improved).
need more input from Annie Robin about the exact scientific aims of the project; can we coadd images from different QRUN-IDs for example? Or should we stick to Annie's request she sent to Laurent?
there are some images which have very good seeing; stars in the images in this case are doubled; should they be discarded? Mireille will send the list of bad images to Mathias; Mathias will ask Annie
We had a question from Linwai about field-to-field variation in galaxy counts; yannick will investigate this (there is a maybe a big (super)cluster in this field?)
Status W3-release candidate
Fred will prepare W3 release candidate and contact the CADC
Mathias will prepare a web pages at TERAPIX detailing the SDSS-CFHTLS photometric comparison of the new release candidate
Yannick will give Mathias the W4 co-ordinates
z-band counts compiled from the CFHTLS will be added to the the QFITS-in/out galaxy count plot by Fred
hardware; Fred
All the machines should be delivered before the end of week; some parts still missing at Agorus
Problem with electrical earthing in the computer room; could this mean we will have to stop the machines sometime soon? Fred will talk to Rene Verriere and check whether this is critical and urgent
250 GB disk will be ordered for Mireille
CNES-argent 2006 will be used to buy a laptop for Chiara
Wircam: Sanders/cosmos
data processing (sky subtraction) proceeding very slowly as only one swarp runs on mix7; don't really know if the sky-subtraction is correct or not...
DEADLINE: by 7 july catalogues should be ready for COSMOS-HAWAII meeting
sky-subtraction
SCAMP, Emmanuel
not much progress; should have more time for this after the meeting on the 13th
Panorapix - Anis
interface QT seems to work
need to find a way to do shaders larger than 4000x4000;
Anis will do a demo in his office by Thursday (June 15)
Fred and Anis will try to run Panorapix from Fred's laptop
Efigi
4 people have classified the first 100 galaxies (Henry, Roser, Yannick, Emmanuel). Valerie de Lapparent is about to
objective with the automatic classification is to get 35% of the galaxies close to one hubble type
Forums
Mike Fitzpatrick suggested that we should include searchable archives of the past mailing lists on the forum; we are not sure how we can do this
- Tasks from last week, other matters
A task has been assigned (deadline: end of June) to Fred, Emmanuel, Laurent and Anthony to split the repository in public and private sections, and to make the web-interface available to the public soon after.
Emmanuel will add IAP logo the poster (for the third week of june); yannick has to prepare some documents for P3
Fred has installed web-SVN which allows one to browse the SVN trees with a web browser
public / private sections have to be separated, and there has to be some backups to be done before this can happen; this will be done before the end of the month.
cleanup of web pages, as requested by Chiara, continues....
Yannick made the changes to the pages spotted by Chiara; a review of the whole website shall be discussed by the end of June.
Hardware:
The deadline for Fred to deploy the software that handles UPSes has been postponed to the end of the week.
Fred has created and filled the 2005 directory for the teraminutes on the intranet, as requested by Yannick.
